Sample Required:
No specific sample is required for an X-ray of the nasopharynx. You will not need to provide any biological samples.
Test Time:

Test Normal Range:

What is the test?
An X-ray of the nasopharynx is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses X-ray technology to obtain images of the back of the throat and the area behind the nose (nasopharynx). It provides detailed images of the structures in this region, including the adenoids, soft tissues, and bony structures, allowing for the assessment of abnormalities, infections, tumors, or other conditions.
Test Procedure:
During the procedure, you will be positioned in front of the X-ray machine. For a lateral view, you may be asked to stand or sit with your side against the X-ray plate. For an AP (anteroposterior) view, you will typically stand facing the X-ray machine. The technologist will provide instructions for proper positioning and may use a device to help keep your head still during image capture. It is important to hold still during the procedure to obtain clear images.
When to take the test?
Your healthcare provider may recommend an X-ray of the nasopharynx if you are experiencing symptoms such as persistent nasal congestion, difficulty breathing, recurrent infections, or if there are concerns about abnormalities in the throat and nasopharynx region.
Who should take this test?
Individuals who have symptoms or conditions affecting the nasopharynx, such as suspected infections, enlarged adenoids, or suspected tumors, may be recommended to undergo an X-ray of the nasopharynx. Your healthcare provider will determine if this test is necessary based on your specific situation.
Precautions for exceptional cases (pregnancy, etc.):
If you are pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider and the radiology department before undergoing an X-ray. Special precautions can be taken to minimize radiation exposure to the fetus. Other exceptional cases, such as individuals with metal implants or certain medical conditions, should also be discussed with the healthcare provider prior to the procedure.
